SEPTEMBER 2021            One Festival    6 Episodes  1 Concert

PictureRoxana and Fabian: Tango de Oro
After the success of the Northumberland Hispanic Heritage Month Festival over the past 3 years, NHCC and the project partners are organizing/producing the inaugural Northumberland Diversity Festival 2021.

Festival that will include local artists and musicians to showcase music, art, and culture from around the world, including performances and storytelling from Indigenous communities.
Writer, Musician and Broadcaster David Newland will host the show.  Our goal is to present and cultivate greater community appreciation for diversity and inclusion.

The Festival will create awareness in a COVID-safe environment and offer diverse content that is accessible to audiences of all ages/backgrounds via six episodes aired through four community TV stations where local artists and musicians will be engaged to showcase multicultural music, art, and culture. Local filmmaker Josh Borg, of Full Frame Productions, will be contracted to capture the essence of Northumberland’s diversity while volunteers will have the opportunity to assist the filmmaker/crew AND participate in the organization/production of the content. Each episode will show a variety of diverse world-class local talent in music, dance, art, craft, and cuisine, including First Nations storytelling through hoop dance, and Grass Dance. Instructional segments will provide viewers with the opportunity to participate and learn cultural dances.

Special Participation
Northumberland Diversity festival will be featuring our very special Native Performers and Story telling Crystal "Beanie" John with her impressive Hoop Dance and Grass Dance and Smoke Trail Singers.

Proudly Hispanic

The term Hispanic (Spanish: hispano or hispánico, Galician: hispánico, Asturian: hispanu, Basque: hispaniar, Catalan: hispà, hispàno) broadly refers to the people, nations, and cultures that have a historical link to Spain. It commonly applies to countries once colonized by the Spanish Empire in the Americas and Asia, particularly the countries of Latin America and the Philippines. It could be argued that the term should apply to all Spanish-speaking cultures or countries, as the historical roots of the word specifically pertain to the Iberian region. It is difficult to label a nation or culture with one term, such as Hispanic, as the ethnicity, customs, traditions, and art forms (music, literature, dress, culture, cuisine, and others) vary greatly by country and region. The Spanish language and Spanish culture are the main traditions.
Hispanic originally referred to the people of ancient Roman Hispania, which roughly comprised the Iberian Peninsula, including the contemporary states of Spain, Portugal, Andorra, and the British Overseas Territory of Gibraltar.
