Vanessa Sandre is a Brazilian-Canadian filmmaker based in Toronto. She holds a Bachelor's degree in Film and a Master's degree in Literature focused on Women and Gender Studies. Vanessa has cultivated a diverse career as a screenwriter, director, producer, and performer for the last 15 years. As a Latina immigrant and artist, she finds inspiration in crafting narratives that amplify underrepresented voices through a decolonial and intersectional feminist lens.
Vanessa is a participant in the 2025 Directors' Lab of the Norman Jewison Program at the Canadian Film Centre (CFC). She is also an alumna of the 2024 Creators of Colour Incubator (CCI) and the Career Advancement Module of the Women in the Director’s Chair (WIDC) program. |

Born in A Coruña, Spain, in 1984, Simón Casal is an acclaimed director and screenwriter known for blending historical narratives with pressing contemporary ethical issues. He began his career in various technical roles, including camera work and project development. He gained significant recognition for his 2011 directorial debut, the TV movie Eduardo Barreiros, el Henry Ford español, which won the Grand Jury Prize for Best TV Movie at WorldFest-Houston. He transitioned to theatrical features with the 2015 WWII thriller Dirty Wolves (Lobos Sucios), which explores the history of tungsten mining in Galicia.
Casal is also a prolific documentarian whose work frequently centers on social justice and historical memory. His notable projects include the Netflix-distributed documentary The Gourougou Trial (2022), which follows a landmark legal battle over migrant rights at the Spanish border, and the high-rated historical series The Swebian Kingdom of Galicia (2019).

Beyond the Ruins explores what it means to be Yucatecan Maya in the 21st century. Starting at the ancient city of Coba, the film takes viewers deep into the jungle, where two indigenous families work to preserve their cultural identity and spiritual philosophy: in lak’ ech, a lak’ en — “I am you; you are me.” Through stunning visuals and heartfelt moments, the film reveals how the Maya view themselves as part of a greater whole—each other, nature, and the cosmos.
Director Brady Skye undergoes a personal transformation, contrasting his Western upbringing with the Maya’s sense of interconnectedness. This emotional journey underscores a powerful message: the wisdom of indigenous cultures may hold answers for a more sustainable, compassionate future. Beyond the Ruins is a moving portrait of a living culture that continues to thrive, reminding us that the true legacy of the Maya isn’t buried in the past—it’s alive today. Is one of Canada's most in-demand musicians for live concerts and recording sessions. Based in Toronto, the acclaimed and versatile multi-instrumentalist has performed all over Canada, the U.S. and Europe with world class jazz and pop artists including Molly Johnson, David Clayton-Thomas, Holly Cole, Emilie-Claire Barlow, Rik Emmett, Marc Jordan, Andrew Craig and Jackie Richardson, to name a few. Colleen is a beloved mentor and teacher of music for 15 years now at Humber College and a regular adjudicator/clinician for musicfest, the TD jazz education festival in Picton and has recently been the artistic director for the Port Hope Jazz Festival. Singer/songwriter Tanya Wills is as comfortable on stage in a musical as she is in a club with her Quartet, and has sung everything from swing to blues/folk and jazz. Gord Sheard
Pianist and composer Gord Sheard has been a stalwart of the Canadian music scene for five decades. He has been a member of Manteca, Rick Shadrach Lazar and the Montuno Police, and the bands of Chuck Mangione, Alain Caron, Liona Boyd, and Eliana Cuevas, among many others. He was the Head of Composition in Humber College’s prestigious music program from 2008 to 2021 and holds a PhD in ethnomusicology. |

Master Rumbero Joaquín Núñez Hidalgo began playing percussion instruments at the age of five. As a professional artist Joaquín had a successful music career in Cuba, performing in numerous musical events and festivals, sharing the stage with most of Cuba’s elite musicians. Eventually settling in Toronto in 1999, Joaquín quickly became immersed in the local music scene performing as a drummer and percussionist with top Canadian based artists (Jane Bunnett, Bill King, Njacko Backo, Eddie Bullen, Hilario Durán, Canadian Tenors, Luis Mario Ochoa).
